Emily and Austin’s Wedding at Cathedral of Christ the King and Callanwolde Fine Arts Center in Atlanta is one I’ve been anticipating since last summer! I first “met” Emily through her Instagram – Emily Kathryn Designs! I’ve loved not only seeing her gorgeous work but getting to know the heart she has for the Lord, tradition and family that comes through in her thoughtful posts! Together Emily and Austin are adorable and fun, and I’ve loved getting to know them and their families over the course of their engagement!
Emily and Austin met their first year at Georgia Tech, and what started as friends grew into love during the summer before their third year and matured over the following four years even through seasons of off-and-on during long distance. Austin proposed last summer in Chicago, and Emily said “yes” in view of the stunning skyline! I loved meeting up with them for engagement photos in Carrollton last fall, and the wedding day was even more perfect! They make such a good team, and the entire day they were overflowing with joy!
The day started with Emily and her bridesmaids getting ready at the hotel before moving over to Cathedral of Christ the King. Emily’s Mom, Kathy, had us all wiping away tears as she described praying for both a godly husband and a wonderful group of friends for Emily from an early age. It’s amazing to see how God has answered that prayer so beautifully! Emily was absolutely radiant in her Rosa Clara gown, and I love the girls reaction to seeing her! The emotions continued during Emily’s first look with her dad & brothers. I just love their special bond! Thinking back, I wonder how I wasn’t wiping tears away all day!
Emily and Austin had a noon mass at Cathedral of Christ the King, and I love that they chose an early ceremony time because Austin said that he’d waited 7 years and didn’t want to wait a moment more! Isn’t that adorable?! Knowing how important faith is to both Emily and Austin, I love how traditional and intentional the ceremony was. And following mass, they exited the church to the triumphant sound of bagpipes playing! It was the perfect way to celebrate their first few moments as husband and wife!
After the ceremony, everyone headed over to Callanwolde where we finished photos utilizing the gorgeous architecture and beautiful grounds! Guests enjoyed traditional Irish music from the Celtic Company during cocktail hour, and everyone shared in a lunch reception in the enclosed courtyard complete with dancing and even a special musical performance from Emily’s Dad, Tom, that you’ll have to check out below! All in all, it was a beautiful day full of joy, and I love that I had the chance to be a part of it!
Emily and Austin – You two radiate joy, and it’s absolutely contagious! It’s amazing to see how well you two compliment each other. You make a great team – I know you’ve mentioned this was something you learned early on in your relationship, and it’s so apparent how true it is! I believe that it’s one of your greatest strengths and will be something God continues to use in your lives together! I’m so excited for all He has for you as you begin your marriage in Chicago! I’m confident God will use you to bless everyone you meet! Thank you for the privilege of being a part of your day! Much love & appreciation – Carrie Joy
Isn’t this beautiful?!! Emily is the designer and owner of Emily Kathryn Designs, and I loved seeing what she created for her own wedding! I also adore that she sent me her entire suite early so I could play and style everything!
I loved working with the talented Jennifer C Nieman who styled Emily’s hair in this fabulous updo!
I love this one my second photographer Noi captured of Austin’s sweet smile!
Emily’s classic bridal style was gorgeous! She wore a Rosa Clara design from LaRaine’s Bridal Boutique!
As much as I love Daddy-Daughter First Looks, including other close family members might be my new favorite! Emily included her brothers in the big reveal, and it was such a sweet, emotional moment!
Don’t you just love the back of Emily’s gown?!! Those bows and buttons are simply stunning!
Having a bagpiper play was such a nice touch to the ceremony!
The architecture around Callanwolde Fine Arts Center was such a beautiful backdrop for Emily and Austin’s portraits! I love how romantic these two look on film! 🙂
Aren’t they just adorable together? And this shot below in black & white is one of my absolute favorites from the day!
Following the noon mass, guests enjoyed a lunch reception in Callanwolde’s courtyard! The beautiful enclosed space with plentiful natural light was perfect for this summer soirée!
Artist Ann Bailey created a beautiful painting of the newlyweds First Dance during the reception!
I just love these film photos from the parent dances! They’re always one of my favorite moments of the day!
Tom, Emily’s Dad, also surprised guests by performing a few songs at the reception! I love this photo Noi captured during his rendition of “White Wedding!”
Emily’s adorable pup Rocky even made an appearance towards the end of the party!
Amidst clapping and cheering, Emily & Austin left the reception in style! I love Emily’s fringed little white dress!
Congrats, Mr. & Mrs. Dodson! It was such a joy capturing your beautiful day!
