I first met Emily when she was a bridesmaid in Helen & Hunter’s wedding back in 2015! I loved Emily’s bright smile and infectious laugh from the beginning and was thrilled when she reached out to me about capturing her own wedding and engagement photos! We met in downtown Roswell where we explored the Roswell Mill and the gorgeous gardens at Barrington Hall on a simply gorgeous Sunday afternoon! I’m so excited to capture their wedding at Perimeter Church and Atlanta Athletic Club this fall! For today, grab a coffee (or chai latte if you’re like me) and read Emily & Oliver’s sweet story and see a few of my favorites from their Roswell engagement session!
“Oliver and Emily met while attending Georgia College in Milledgeville. They first met through mutual friends playing on an intramural soccer team in Fall 2010. Not long after this both Emily and Oliver ended up in the same friends group and began doing more and more things as a group together. As Emily and Oliver became closer they were both too stubborn to admit that they liked each other. With encouragement from several of their friends, Emily and Oliver finally went on their first date in January 2012 and their relationship has continued to grow since.”
Oliver, what is it about Emily that you love the most? – “I love the way she always supports me and is by my side whether it’s my latest and greatest idea for an adventure or the worst week of studying any human could endure. She has the most caring heart imaginable and puts others before herself constantly. She even laughs at my stupid jokes and listens to my “fun facts” about random things she couldn’t care less about. She always knows how to cheer me up weather it’s a surprise gift bag right before finals or singing to me in the car when we’re running late and just hit the 15th red light in a row.”
Emily, what is it about Oliver that you love the most? – “What I love the most about Oliver is how much fun we ALWAYS have together and how supportive he has been while I have been completing pharmacy school. He always plans around my exam schedule and tries to work in short day trips to go on some adventure when we can. Oliver has never once missed a beat to congratulate me or remind me of my goal whenever I lost sight of what I really wanted. When I called to tell him that I would be moving to Albany, GA next year for a PGY1 residency, Oliver did not even hesitate before he told me how excited he was for me (even though it is likely that we will be living apart during the first year of our marriage.) I also love that he loves my family and is always supportive and willing to help whether its in my mom’s backyard or planting azaleas in the exact spot my grandma picked out under a particular palm tree in her yard in Panama City.”
About the Proposal – “Oliver was trying to plan the perfect surprise proposal for Emily. This was not easy because Emily is hard to surprise. Oliver teamed up with his sister, Karen, Emily’s sister, Abigail, and friend Kim to pick out the perfect ring. After Oliver picked out the ring then he, Abigail, and Emily’s mom, Judy had to somehow figure out how to keep her in the dark about the plan and had to make sure she didn’t catch onto anything. After all telling Emily white lies for about two weeks (and Abigail almost slipping up several times) it was finally time for the proposal. Oliver told Emily that they were going to meet his mom and sister for dinner down near Centennial Olympic Park. The night before Oliver and Abigail went to the park to find the perfect place to stop to get the best picture possible and marked the spot on the sidewalk with a heart that had E+O in it. As they walked through the park Oliver knew to walk to the exact place for where he was supposed to propose. When they got to “the spot” Oliver pointed down to the heart to show Emily and then got down on one knee. Unknown to Emily, Karen, Abigail and Emily’s mom were all hiding ready to take the perfect picture. After Emily said yes they came running out to congratulate Oliver and Emily. Afterwards Emily and Oliver rode the Skyview Ferris Wheel and called all their friends and family, while enjoying the view, to share the exciting news!”
